June, July and August are the months to bring the family out to Idaho and get back to nature.

Whether it's a weeklong family vacation or that well deserved weekend getaway, we'll customize your vacation according to your preferences and timeframe.

While you're here, our luxurious accommodations will offer a comfortable place to call home on the summit of White Bird Hill between Grangeville and Whitebird.

All rooms have private baths and our home is open to all guests. There is an inviting hot tub in the beer garden and we have a large deck overlooking a spectacular view of the mountains.

While you are here, we'll share our knowledge of the history of the area, especially the 1877 Nez Perce war at White Bird Battlefield, where Chief Joseph and his people fought the U.S. Calvary in a brutal battle, later fleeing to Montana.

With the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Celebration kicking off this year, there will be lots of events and historical antecdotes that bring into focus the customs and cultures of the Nez Perce tribe.

HORSE TRAIL RIDING TO THE HISTORIC GILMORE RANCH

If Horse Trail Riding is an experience you'd like to share with your family or friends, Historic Gilmore Ranch is the perfect getaway for an overnight trip. Located on 450 acres of private land surrounded by federal forest land, deer and elk often can be seen grazing in the meadow directly in front of the cabin where we can enjoy watching them in the mornings and evenings right from the cabin windows!

We have full kitchen facilities, private sleeping area, sitting area and inside shower. All bedding and towels are provided for our guests. This is an old homestead from the late 1800's and early 1900's. You will even find their farming equipment right where they left them. Three brothers homesteaded in this area and you will still see the remains of two of the original cabins.

Enjoy the rustic stay in this remote area surrounded by National Forest. Your stay can include hiking, fly fishing in John's Creek, horse trail riding on Forest trails, catching butterflies in the open meadows or just plain old relaxing in one of the hammocks.

The kids are always invited to assist us in rounding up the horses for the morning trail ride. This can be a very important learning trip as well as a fabulous vacation for your children. We have everything you need back at camp you will not need to bring anything but your time. Couples looking for that special get away time will have the entire area to enjoy completely to themselves!

PHOTOGRAPHY | Our photography trips take place back at the Historic Gilmore Ranch. We will take you by horse back throughout our area on forest trails. Overnights at the Historic Gilmore Ranch so you can capture the Elk and Deer grazing in the early mornings and late evenings.

You may even get a few pictures of the family of turkeys we having nesting near camp. Some of the other animals you may see are mountain goats, moose, mountain lion and bobcat. The summer flowers blooming in the open meadows are amazing and you're sure to see hundreds of birds. A tripod is a must and remember to bring lots of film!

Rafting trips can be done in combination with our horse trail riding trips.

The raging waters of the Salmon and Snake rivers are waiting for you to experience the thrill of a lifetime. Exciting days rafting the waters and the tranquil evenings relaxing on the sand beaches. Yes, I did say sandy beaches, of the Snake and Salmon rivers. Rugged canyons, historical artifacts, pristine beaches with inviting swimming holes, and dramatic whitewater thrills and splashes are a few of the exciting pleasures that will make this a very memorable vacation.

After a few days of rafting you will mount your horse to the top of the mountain. The breathtaking views of the Gospel Hump Wilderness area are sure to amaze you. You'll enjoy the beauty of the area and have a chance to see an abundance of wildlife on your trip including Deer, Elk, and an occasional Moose, Mountain Goat and Eagles!
